2019 looks like it’s going to be an exciting year for the Nintendo Switch. Here are 10 of the most highly anticipated games slated for release this year.

10.  The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince

Leading off the list is The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince. In this action-adventure side-scroller, you’re a princess (who is actually a shape-shifting wolf-monster) guiding a blind prince through a dangerous forest in a search for the only witch who can restore his eyesight.

Utilizing your princess form, you hold the prince’s hand to guide and help him along the way. Stay vigilant as you navigate the perilous forest, because you’ll need to transform back into your wolf-monster form in order to fight off the sinister creatures and dangerous beasts you’ll encounter along the way. Master your abilities as both wolf-monster and princess to overcome enemies, environmental puzzles, and to save your blind prince.

9.  Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission

Powering its way into our number 9 spot is Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission. Already a hit in Japan, this highly anticipated Dragon Ball game is finally scheduled to reach home consoles in the west. Join Beat on his quest to become the best Super Dragon Ball Heroes player in the world. However, not everything is as it seems, because his desire to be the best manifests the game into the real world.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission will include characters from many of your favorite Dragon Ball series such as Xenoverse, GT, Super, and the original Dragon Ball. Like the arcade version of the game, you’ll build decks out of Dragon Ball characters. However, unlike the arcade version, you won’t need to purchase any physical cards to play.

If you’re feeling confident about your deck builds, you can challenge yourself against other players online.

You can fight alongside Beat, and your favorite Dragon Ball characters, in Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission on April 5, 2019 on the Nintendo Switch and PC.

8.  Animal Crossing 2019 (Working Title)

Making its way into our list at number 8 is the untitled Animal Crossing 2019. The newest entry to the beloved Animal Crossing series was announced during the September 2018 Nintendo Direct. While there is no new information about the game’s mechanics or story, it’s rumored to bring about a “whole new adventure” –  according to a UK listing of the game.

Despite the lack of information and exact release date, you can be sure that Tom Nook, Isabelle, and all of your favorite villagers (and some new ones) will welcome you back in Animal Crossing 2019 on the Nintendo Switch.

7.  Luigi’s Mansion 3

Busting it’s way into the number 7 spot on our list is the untitled Luigi’s Mansion 3. This installment of the ghost-busting franchise was teased during the September 2018 Nintendo Direct. While the teaser trailer only showcased a small amount of actual gameplay, it’s clear that you can expect to see more of the fun quirky ghost hunting mechanics that are a staple of the series. Also, because of the impressive the graphics power of the Switch, there will definitely be plenty of spooky, yet beautifully detailed, environments to explore in Luigi’s Mansion 3.

Unfortunately, no other information or exact release date is available, but it’s likely that Nintendo will release the game later this year.

6.  Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Joining our list at number 6 is Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The wait is finally over – almost.  Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be the first Fire Emblem game scheduled to release on console since Radiant Dawn in 2007. Announced back in 2017, the game promises the same beloved top-down strategic gameplay that fans of the series hold dear.

The setting is located in the new world of Fódlan, where the Church of Seiros maintains a powerful influence over the population. On your journey, you’ll be accompanied by the characters Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude.

Combat is still turn-based, but a new mechanic will be introduced that’ll allow you to maneuver formations of troops in battle. Additionally, certain sections of the game will allow you to move freely and interact with characters enabling you to gather intel and establish strategic relationships.

5.  Doom Eternal

Next up on our list at number 5 is Doom Eternal, the direct sequel to 2016’s Doom. In Doom Eternal, you take on the role of a Doom Slayer, an ancient warrior who battles the demonic creatures of Hell. In your fight, you’ll have access to a variety of firearms ranging from simple shotguns all the way to advanced plasma rifles.

Enjoy the new ability sets added to the series, such as the abilities to wall-climb and and dash, that’ll add a substantial amount of variety (and style) to your fight against Hell’s minions. However, these new abilities and weapons aren’t just cosmetic, they will be crucial to your survival. You’ll need all the skill and firepower that you can get in order survive, because you’re not just fighting against the familiar creatures you’ve encountered in the previous entries of the series, but against the powerful new diabolical monsters unique to Doom Eternal as well.

Jump in your friends’ campaign as they play through Doom Eternal by utilizing the new “Invasion” mode. However, “Invasion” mode has a twist, because you won’t be joining their games to aid them in their fight. Instead, you’ll join their games for one sinister purpose –  to fight against them as a demon.

No exact release date is known, but prepare to face Hell’s demons soon in 2019 on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.     

4.  Mortal Kombat 11

Shattering its way into our list at number 4 is Mortal Kombat 11. Announced at the 2018 Game Awards, Mortal Kombat 11 is set to usher in the next evolution of the iconic franchise. Experience the best-in-class cinematic story featuring a roster full of new and returning “Klassic Fighters.”

With the introduction of Custom Character Variations, you can make the fighters fit your style with unique outfits and weapons. 3.  Yoshi’s Crafted World

Landing at our number 3 spot is Yoshi’s Crafted World. If you’re seeking a more casual experience, “Mellow” mode makes a return granting Yoshi wings to help you traverse the landscape with ease. Want to play with a friend? Toss them one of your Joy-Cons so that they can join in on the fun.

2.  Bayonetta 3

Shooting its way into our number 2 spot is Bayonetta 3. The next entry to the popular hack ‘n’ slash series was revealed to be in development at the same time as the Nintendo Switch ports of the first two Bayonetta games.

A teaser trailer was released for Bayonetta 3 during the 2017 Game Awards, but no other information has been released to the public. Given the great reception of the first two games, fans have high hopes that Bayonetta 3 will deliver a great story that’s jam packed with high octane action.

While no release date has been announced, expect to join Bayonetta in another thrilling adventure in Bayonetta 3 on the Nintendo Switch.

Finally, sitting firmly at number one is the upcoming Pokémon game. Last year, Tsunekazu Ishihara, president of The Pokémon Company, confirmed that a core Pokémon game will be released in 2019. Not much is known regarding the upcoming entry to the beloved Pokémon franchise, but with the promise of new Pokémon, improved graphics, and gameplay that veterans of the series crave, it’s no surprise that fans are eager to start a new adventure in the world of Pokémon.
