Most of us can probably agree that Pokémon makes the world a better place. Looks like The Pokémon Company agrees, because they’re hiring developers for a new mobile game.

According to the job listing, they’re looking for a creative “Principal Game Designer” who will “work within a team of designers, engineers, artists, producers, and testers to create an upcoming mobile game”  and also “understands the secret sauce to fun games.” The job location is in Bellevue, WA, where US office of The Pokémon Company is based.

To say that other Pokémon titles have performed well on mobile would be a gross understatement. Just look at the international phenomenon that was Pokémon Go in 2016. Pokémon Go revolutionized what it meant to be a mobile game – or any game at all for that matter. The integration of AR, creation of community by joining different teams with (or against) your friends, and encouragement to get up and GO outside and explore captured the imagination of the world.

Pokémon Go certainly wasn’t the last Pokémon mobile game published. Pokémon Duel, Pokémon Magikarp Jump, and Pokémon Quest were all subsequently released on mobile chasing after Pokémon Go’s massive success. While the Pokémon games released on mobile after Pokémon Go didn’t capture the same magic, they were still relatively popular and widely played by fans of the franchise.

However, the one thing that all of the above mentioned Pokémon titles have in common is that none of them were actually developed by The Pokémon Company. Instead, the development of the games were outsourced to outside developers.

Here’s what’s interesting about this job posting. The Pokémon Company is directly hiring for the position of Principal Game Designer. This means that The Pokémon Company might just be developing the next Pokémon game in house – instead of outsourcing the title.

While we know there is a job opening for a new Pokémon mobile game by The Pokémon Company, there’s been no word as to what the game would look like, how it would play, or what features it’ll contain. Given Pokémon on mobile’s track record – there will likely be some sort of microtransaction system.

We’re excited to see this next chapter of Pokémon on mobile, and we’ll let you know as soon as any more developments are revealed. What do you think about the idea of another Pokémon mobile game? If you could choose, what kind of game would it be? Let us know in the comments below!
